G between two i's always had the sound of g as in Gym or Germany. For eg: vigil, digit, rigid.
That way my name would be pronounced Mrigi with the sound of g as in gym. But actually it is the g as in girl. Boohoo! My exchange partner thought my name was Mrigi (gym). So this is surely going to trouble me for the rest of my life! The spelling could have been Mrighi. Maybe.
